The "Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre" which is part of the University of Tasmania, offers free online courses on Dementia. These courses attract entrants from around the world and provide anyone with an interest in Dementia a university quality education. The course content has been created with the help of neuroscientists, clinicians and dementia care professionals from Australia and elsewhere. There are currently 3 courses varying in length from 4 to 7 weeks at around 3 hours a week. These courses are;

  • Understanding Dementia - Increase your knowledge of Dementia, including its causes, symptoms and ways of responding to those living with the condition.
  • Preventing Dementia - Learn about risk factors from the world's leading experts and how it is becoming the public health issue of the 21st Century.
  • Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury - Learn how to improve management, rehabilitation and public awareness of people living with a TBI.

The courses run on a rotating basis so if you have missed one that interests you, you can wait till it becomes available again. Once completed, you will receive a certificate from the University of Tasmania.

They also have 2 Diploma's that can be completed online. They are the Diploma in Dementia Care and the Diploma of Aging Studies and Services
