Many of our Direct Support Workers today attended a paid training workshop in Bowel Care. Delivered by a registered nurse at Essential Skills in Newcastle, this course covered the following topics;
- Anatomy and physiology of the intestines
- Common bowel problems and conditions
- The neurogenic bowel
- Autonomic dysreflexia
- Bowel care- invasive and non-invasive support strategies
- Legal and ethical considerations
- Enema administration competency
- Colostomy care
This is our second workshop as part of a tailored 12 month program with Essential Skills to upskill our workers so they can provide better to support to our clients.
